Discovering London through my lens
Around London I often go to the same places. I think it is extraordinary how, sometimes, everything seems new to me, different from the last time I saw it. I didn’t start photographing London right away. As soon as I arrived in England I was busy finding work and dealing with bureaucratic matters that could not be postponed. I really think I went out to photograph after about five or six months that I lived here … and I never stopped 🙂
I spent the last ten years of my photographic life in photojournalism but once I took the camera I realized that here in London I didn’t have news to tell through photography, at least not yet (this would become my goal shortly after). Wow! This is really incredible: a city, or rather “the City”, to be photographed in full freedom. I confess that I wasn’t longer used going around in search of inspires. In photojournalism the passion for photography often turns into technique: you have news to follow, situations to foresaw and signs to picking up.
So day by day I discovered the freedom to photograph again. I discovered the choose between to see and take a picture.
